IDENT ANALYSIS

IDENT ANALYSIS

The purpose of an ident is to promote the channel, they normally come up in the middle of adverts and are there solely because they are designed to give some kind of announcement as to what station you are on. They can also represent a form of branding to make the authorities that are involved satisfied.

E4 IDENT..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOw4i-UB8Lw

The channel corporate identity is the E inside the 4 and is the color purple. They use the pantone number 2695 purple shade. The target audience for E4 is 16 - 34 year olds because of the programs that they show might be to explicit for ages younger and people who are 34+ might not be interested in what they are showing. The ident is CGI animation because of the trees and the movement of the objects that are made in the footage would not be able to move like that in real life. In the first shot the camera pans across the front room to get as much action in the shot as possible, in the second shot the camera goes to another position and tilts down to get the shot of the purple movement spreading across the room, in the third shot the camera pulls out to show more of what is popping up with the trees, the fourth shot is panning to the right and is getting the boxes jumping out of the cupboard, the fifth shot is pulling out but panning at the same time and to finally leading up to the final shot where is pans across to the right showing a big E4 logo. The sound of the ident is a very computer game sound and is very mystical song that you can see that there is a toy that starts shooting the gun that also links to the sound. The color of the ident is mostly purple due to the corporate identey of E4 is the color purple but also use greens and other dark colors to make it look like a forest almost. The images in the ident are portraying a forest or woods with the green grass on the floor and the trees and the mushrooms on the floor. This is interesting to the target audience because it has nothing to do with the channel but the randomness is what attract the audience to the ident.

CHANNEL 4 IDENT..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EFvob9n3lk

The corporate identity for Channel 4 is the number 4, it is the main thing they use in their idents. Most of their idents are made up of random objects that all form into the number 4. The target audience for channel 4 is different because it depends on what time of day you are watching tv, in the morning might be young people watching and at night they might put on some adult program that a child might not be aloud to watch so it all depends on the time of the day. The style of this ident is CGI animation because there are crates that are floating and are stacked onto each other that would not be able to stay like that in real life. But also some of it is real footage of the boat because the cars and lifters are driving round which are real and the boat itself but the things floating are edited. In this ident the camera shot is one single shot and is filmed on a flat bed and is a tracking shot either a dolly or the back of the truck. With this they have very cleverly edited images out of things and put them into the ident and make it look as if it is real. The sound in the ident is very interesting because it uses a disntict sound but also you can hear the noises of trucks beeping and fitting into the beat of the song and other noises you would hear on a building site incorporated into the song. The colors in this ident are bright and some dark to even the tone out. This might appeal to the target audience because there might be a program about deadliest catch on next and this ident links to boat ect.

NICKELODEON IDENT..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Q-nkaiY5GM&safe=active

The corporate identity for Nickelodeon is the color orange with the name of the channel in the middle of the orange. i think they have chosen the color orange  because it is a childish color and bright and attractive to the target audience. They own alot of channels including Nick Jr., Nicktoons, Teen-Nick, Nick 2 and TV Land, These all are aimed at different target audiences, for some are 2 - 6 and others are 7 - 16 years of age. They reason is because some channels show things that children 2 wont understand, and the other way round where the older boys wont want to watch a baby program. This style of ident is very simple and a fox who is exploring and then jumps onto a spray can and it sprays nickelodeon onto the glass frame. The style is CGI animation, the fox is a draw object that is then edited to move around and also the spray paint orange is edited to. The camera has no movement and is one continuous shot, the reason it dose not move is because they wanted to keep it simple and to attract the target audience. There is no music to this ident only the noise of the foxes footstep and the spray can rattling and spraying the paint and the noise of the fox banging and falling of the window of glass. There are not many colors to this ident like i said they want to keep it simple and appealing to the audience because young people wont understand if there are a million things going on in the ident. The ident could be relevant to a program that is on next involving a fox so it can link to the programs that the tv company show.

MUSIC VIDEO CONVENTIONS ANALYSIS

Music Video Conventions
Indie - The Killers - Glamorous Indie Rock and Roll

In most Indie music videos are Black and White and are very plain and dark, they normally playing musical instruments like a guitar or the bass or drums. You can see that they all dress the same style throughout everyone of there music videos and dress different to people who say do pop songs because its there style of music that influences what they wear and their hair style is different.

Hip Hop - Flume - On Top FT. T-Shirt

In this Music video by 'Flume' is categorised as hip hop, This is a classic music video where there is a gig that the band go to film and edit effects and other things over the top to make a music video, different to the indie one because this has allot more camera shots and angles. In this video there are allot of colours and shots of the crowd dancing and going insane to make the music video seem more effective. They are all dresses in snap backs and baggy clothes.

Pop - Imagine Dragons - Radioactive

This music video is by 'Imagine Dragons', its called 'Radioactive'. This song has been put
under pop because its a very fast song that tell a story like most pop music videos. They are
portraying toys getting put against each other to fight and people putting bets on it. Its a very
unusual video that i still don't understand why it relevant and why it links to the word
'radioactive' but i think that the randomenss is what attracts people to watch it.

Rock - Red Hot Chili Peppers - The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie

This music video is by 'Red Hot Chilli Peppers'. It is a classic rock music video, they all have trucker caps with jackets with no t shirts on which makes them look more mad and rock like. They use microphones in this video and i can also point out they are on a roof sing nothing else but them dancing ontop of a roof top. You can also see that the hair style is diffrent as one guy has his hair dyed blue, this is i think something that they do to make them look more mad when they are singing ect. The way they dance is diffeent to all the other music videos, this one they are just jumping up and down and shaking their heads about.

SINGLE SHOT CAMERA ANALYSIS

Single Shot Camera Analysis

Sitcom

 Big Bang Theory
The Big Bang Theory is a popular sitcom that is shot all with single camera. This is a perfect example of a Single shot TV Program. They have to get the lighting of each shot pretty much the same every time otherwise they have to start the whole shot again.  They film single shot techniques to tell a complex narratives.

Friends
Friends is a very popular american sitcom that is taken in single camera, The techniques are used in this sitcom are all the same in the above in big bang theory. Its the same because if your shooting with single camera and the light changes you have to start the shot again.

Miranda
Its the same for this sitcom as well for miranda which is a popular sitcom that is shot all with single camera. This is a perfect example of a Single shot TV Program. They have to get the lighting of each shot pretty much the same every time otherwise they have to start the whole shot again.  They film single shot techniques to tell a complex narratives throughout the program.

Music Video

OK Go - This Too Shall Pass
This music video is by 'Ok Go'  and a long music videos that uses one long shot throughout the video and
consists of things falling over to create the final explosion of paint, it is all filmed on a fly-cam to create a
smooth shot. This means that if they get any part of this wrong they will have to set all the broken props up
again until they get it all wright, you can see in the background that there is alot of broken tv etc so you can
see that it has taken them a couple of attempt to get it right.

Film

Children Of Men

This is a scene where it is a 15 min shot filmed in one shot, You can see by watching this if anything goes
wrong the shot has to be filmed all again. This is a very complex scene where people get shot and hit over
so if the stunt goes wrong they have to set up and film from the start again, this will be4 very time consuming
and cost a lot of money.

TYPOGRAPHY

TYPOGRAPHY

 'Kids Play'
Why did you choose it? The reason i pick this font is because it reminded me of a kid that has wrote the word kids with a paint brush, It looked very clear for a child to understand.

'Reading from the East'
I picked this font because it kind of just went with the way it looked and the name is very sophistcated and hard to undserstand.

'Teen'
The reason i chose this font if because on it is very simple plain and just something us teens would use when making a title or something as such.

'History Brush'
This font is looks very old and allmost battered like it has been on a peice of paper for a very long time, alomst like something from the war.

'Ice Box'

This font i chose for the word 'Art' Because it is bold looks like it has been drawn with a fine liner, and looks very creative and different.

'Fashion Victim'
I chose this font as it reminded me of a fashion magazine that i read recently, this text was exactly like the wording on the front cover. With the bold first letter and the other letters smaller.

'Ocitin Sport'
I chose this font because it reminded me of the font on the football jerseys and they football team names fonts, also it is the same font as the numbers on the basket ball players back.

'Funny Kid'
I chose this font because it is a very bubbley font that has shadows in the background and it simple and round. it reminds me on comedy tv adverts of the name of the channel font. That is the reason why i chose this font.

'Drama Type'
I chose this font because it reminded me of the drama act from shakespeare, It is a very old and roman font which most drama act names use this type of font because it is very intresting.

OKGO MUSIC VIDEO POSTER

In the Ok Go music videos ‘White Knuckles’ they mostly use single camera shots that makes the video look simpler and effective. If you look at the music videos that Ok Go produce they are all very unusual and original ideas to make them stand out from other music videos. If you see as they progress their ideas and they get bigger and expensive as the band get bigger with expanding their ideas.
In the next music video ‘Needing/Getting’ they use a lot more camera shots including cameras that are attached to the car called go pros, they use these so that they can get the different point of views to make the music video more enjoyable and different.

CHANNEL LOGO ANALYSIS

Channel Logo Analysis

The font style of E4’s logo is a custom font that the company who have created E4 have created to show that there channel is new. The colour used by the channel E4 is a dark purple, they have used this colour because it appeals to all adults because purple is neither a masculine or a feminine colour. The main target audience for the channel E4 is in an age group of 15 – 35.

The main target audience for the channel comedy central is 18 – 49,
The colour’s used in the logo for the channel comedy central are bright colours including yellow and blue, this shows that the channel appeals to a younger audience. The font style that Comedy central have used in there logo is a bold, appealing and young font showing that there channel is meant for teenagers and young adults. In the logo for Comedy central there is an image on top of the words ‘comedy central’ of tall building’s, this shows that the channel is a world wide know show and they are a big channel.

The main Target audience for channel 4 is the ages 16 – 34. The colour’s used in channel 4 s logo is just black and white, by these colours you can tell that this channel is quite a dull channel. The font style that is used by channel 4 is like the channel E4’s logo (its there own style), it’s like no other channels font style.
The main target audience is for men in there 16 – 34, The colours that are used in Dave’s logo are mainly blue with a bit of white, blue is thought of as a masculine colour showing that Dave is more of a masculine channel. The font style of Daves logo is quite plain, it isn’t a very stylish or fancy font that is used by other channel, I think this is used to show that Dave is a plain channel that only shows more of masculine shows.

MUSIC VIDEO'S RESEARCH - RECIPE

Music Video’s Research

70’s – Elvis Presley – The Wonder Of You

In this Music video by Elvis Presley there are only about three camera angles of him walking singing on stage, Not quite a entertaining music video, I don’t think that it gauges the audience attention when he is walking around the stage. In this video it is more focused on him as a performer and a star.

80’s – Vanilla Ice – Ice Ice Baby

In this music video you can see as time goes on that they are filming different scenes and editing them putting them behind the music, As technology developed they don’t have many performance stage music videos and more of people acting in the music videos.

90’s – Britney Spears – Baby One More Time

In the 90’s Britney Spears was big hit, in most of her videos she is always acting and dancing and to portray herself in a sexy image to the public, As you can see as technology progresses the camera and image quality gets better.

2000’s – Justin Timberlake – Cry Me a River

The next music video is by Justin Timberlake, in the video the locations and the cameras and the sound quality are better so this means that they are spending more money to make more money, He portrays himself as a thug with a nice car to try and big himself up in the video.

2010’s – P!nk - Raise Your Glass

The next video is a chart hit by P!nk, In this music video she explains a story about people who are different to stand up and be proud, It is obvious because it links to the song name, She is trying to inspire people to do what the lyrics say. This last video is different to the first one because Elvis was walking around the stage with couple of camera angles bad camera quality, where as this music video has good quality and a different video overall, it wants to inspire people.

………………………………………………………………………….....

From the 70’s – 2010’s the music videos have changed dramatically from the camera quality to what is seen in the actual video. The technology has progress throughout the years as you can see and hear the quality of the sound and the quality of the picture. This means that as the videos have gotten better they have had to spend more money on the equipment to get better ideas and to change what they do in the next video to make more money.

CORPORATE IDENTY THEORY ESSAY E4

CORPORATE IDENTITY THEORY ESSAY

The purpose of this essay if to show you that i have learnt and understood what 'Corporate Identity Theory' is. Then to take what i have learnt and use it to make my own Indent. A corporate identity is the overall image of a corporation or firm or business in the minds of diverse publics, such as customers and investors and employees. It is a primary task of the corporate communications department to maintain and build this identity to accord with and facilitate the attainment of business objectives. It is usually visibly manifested by way of branding and the use of trademarks.

Corporate identity is often viewed as being composed as three separate parts. 'Corporate Design' is mainly things like logos and uniforms and have a corporate color, this means the color is exactly the same and not a different shade, All the different shades of one color has a pantone number so that you can identify a specific color or tone. I researched to try and find the pantone color for the E4 logo and the nearest one i found was Pantone 2613. The logo for E4 has been designed in the way that the E sits inside the 4 in a cool design. The 'E' stands for 'Entertainment', also the 4 is because it is owned my Channel 4, so they put it together and designed E4.

The next thing I'm going to be talking about is 'Corporate communication', This is part of the company where the money is involved and the stakeholders come into it. This is how to company brand there channel in the way they want to reach there target audience.  Corporate communications is the set of activities involved in managing and orchestrating all internal and external communications aimed at creating favorable point-of-view among stakeholders on which the company depends. The investor relations function is used by companies which publicly trade shares on a stock exchange. In such companies, the purpose of the IR specialist is to interface with current and potential financial stakeholders-namely retail investors, institutional investors, and financial analysts. The role of the public relations specialist, in many ways, is to communicate with the general public in ways that serve the interests of the company. PR therefore consists of numerous specialty areas that convey information about the company to the public, including sponsorships, events, issues management and media relations. A corporate brand is the perception of a company that unites a group of products or services for the public under a single name, a shared visual identity. The process of corporate branding consists creating favorable associations and positive reputation with both internal and external stakeholders.

E4 is funded by advertisement therefore will have alot of adverts in between there shows, however they also advertises there own shows to increase publicity, E4 target audience of 16-34 year olds therefore the show they broadcasted are aimed at young generation would enjoy, for example the 'Inbertweeners' or 'The Big Bang Theory' these shows are comedies which a younger audience can relate to, therefore most of the younger audience will watch E4 due to the programs they show.

Corporate behaviour is the behavior of an organization when considered as a single body, the behavior of an organization is influenced by the arrangements for its ownership and control. when the owners appointed agents t manage the organization, conflicts of interest arise which are studied as the principal- agents problem. Corporate behavior within E4 is what they stand for, for example there shows do not contain racism or sexual contact at any certain point, however there is a water shed where they allowed to play some show that there can be explicit but if they play it after 8:30 it is allowed to certain extent.

In conclusion the word 'Corprate Identfiy Theory' is all about the structure of the company and all the diffrent apects, from the pantone colour of the logo to the marking and broadcasting stragteys.
