History Of Idents
BBC Idents
In 1964 the first ident, it featured in the globe in black and white background. The original logo was a BBC tv logo, but it changed all when it was launched and changed to BBC. As you can see it was a very simple and plain ident as it was the first one they made, if you have watched it the globe moves slowly.

The next ident was created in 1966, it was slightly changed by the striped band going behind the globe. But as you can see there wasn't any dramatic changes in the logo as they didn't have the technology to change anything to big.
The globe and colour scheme remained the same, but a rounder, italic font was used for the ident introduced in 1972.
In 1978 new blue and yellow globe was introduced. The colour was added using electronics and a new big bold font was introduced.
In 1981 the color change was made to the globe - yellow became green. The caption also changed to a double line version (similar to the BBC 2 logo of the time).
In 1985 the new rotating gold and blue BBC 1 globe was introduced. Called COW, for Computer Originated World, it was the first time that BBC 1 had abandoned mechanical models and still slides and used a completely computer generated image.
In 1991 the COW globe was replaced with a new on-screen image designed by Lambie-Nairn (who worked on the Nine O’Clock News ident). The design was a swirling world of shadows and reflections.
In 1997 the new style BBC ONE ident and logo was dominated by the red and yellow globe balloon. The balloon was filmed flying over 10 different British locations.
These idents were from 2002 - 2006, The new channel idents explore the universal theme of rhythm, dance and movement through different activities, moods and world cultures. From the power and grace of a Brazilian dance to the raw energy of a festival, from the high elegance of ballet to the speed and agility of basketball players, the idents bring a new feel to BBC ONE.

In this ident they use the same concept with the circle but using hippos instead. The hippos move around in a circular formation, this has nothing to do with the channel but the pure randomness is what attracts the attention. They called it the 'Rhythm and Movement' idents. This was in May 2009.

This ident was introduced in 2010 - 2013 and uses people from the public dancing in a curricular formation in a courtyard of BBC television centre. Its was launched to introduce 'strictly come dancing' but has been used to introduce other programs as-well. When the TV studio closed down the ident became out of date.
Channel 4
The award winning Channel Four identity was designed in 1982 by Robinson Lambie-Nairn.
They won the initial pitch against Michael Peters and Wolf Olins.
From their initial presentation Lambie-Nairn researched Channel Four's philosophy and
seized the fact that they would be buying all their programmes in, so Channel Four would
be a patchwork.
Their first idea was to illustrate the coming together of these elements. The first six ideas of
'coming together' all implied movement. One idea used the the colours of a television gun
(RGB) and Channel Four liked the use of strong colour and agreed the 'coming together'
theme should be emphasised and developed further.

, the first extension of broadcasting hours took place with the
us about some of the programmes which will be featured in the
first few weeks of this new afternoon schedule.
This ident is the one of the latest one where they use random things that form the number 4. This is one of many that they do in this style but this one is the newest one that i have found (2010)
